PORTLAND, ME and CARMEL, IN (October 21, 2014) – HealthInfoNet, Maine’s statewide health information exchange (HIE), a nationally recognized health information technology leader, has selected Symedical® from Clinical Architecture to enhance terminology management and data normalization. HealthInfoNet will utilize Symedical’s unique ability to process disparate sources of information into the normalized data required to support effective exchange and manage access to mental health and HIV related information, which in the State of Maine, requires additional legal protections.
As a statewide HIE, HealthInfoNet links information from a variety of sources covering 80% of all healthcare activity in the state, to create a single electronic patient health record accessible by providers to support patient care. The HIE must match information across organizations to a normalized standard to facilitate seamless exchange, better clinical understanding and higher accuracy for reporting and analytics services. While supporting broad access to healthcare data, the HIE must also control access to certain mental health and HIV related information based on user authority to release and patient consent based on Maine State law. Symedical’s ability to automate these processes and better manage data elements at the terminology level helps HealthInfoNet and its HIE participants comply with State law and protect patient privacy.
Symedical is a comprehensive terminology management system, which integrates with HealthInfoNet’s HIE to provide a platform for a host of services including normalization, mapping and system integration. Symedical serves as a single source for all terminology management and allows for the collection and utilization of accurate and actionable clinical information.
